    Shower solenoid leaking

Cheers. When I'd taken the old valve off, the olive was stuck fast and I couldn't get the nut off it, so I just sawed through the plastic! Subtlety isn't really me...

    Shower solenoid leaking

Thanks for that. Yep, bought the whole thing so will pull it to bits and see if I can tell where the leak is coming from. I managed to knacker the old valve taking it off though so can't do a mix and match job. Thanks for the pointers.

    Shower solenoid leaking

Thanks for the reply. Neither really, it's dripping straight out of the bottom of the solenoid - can't see it running down from the o-ring or anything. Might just be able to make it out from the attached pic. [/img]

    Shower solenoid leaking

Hello good people, hope someone will be able to help. We've got a Triton Trance shower and water has been leaking from the shower head when it's switched off (was running rather than dripping). So, I bought a new solenoid and have just fitted it - all seemed to go on fine but now when I...

    Thank you

Thanks. Like you Tony, I'm a 'softee' in that I don't want to rip him off over his obviously reasonable pipework, despite the fact that he tried to rip us off! I kind of think that makes us as bad as him in some ways and I don't like doing that. But then I think of him swanning off in the...

    Thank you

Genuine corgi (we've checked!) is coming to take the old boiler out and put in a proper one next week. In the meantime, he reckons it's safe enough to have the heating and water on with our illegal combi! Told cowboy man I'll call him to tell him when he can pick up his old boiler. Probably...

    Thank you

Hello, I posted last weekend about a boiler problem we had. The swift and accurate advice we had from many on here has saved us having an out of date boiler illegally fitted by an unregistered installer. And we've saved several hundred pounds as well. So thanks - this forum is doubtless a...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

Proper corgi has been! Says the pipework looks reasonable enough and is getting us prices for sorting this out, looking like a grand or so to replace with an ariston boiler, which he reckons is one of the better boilers in its price bracket. Depends on whether the gas pipe that the dodgy bloke...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

Thanks. I know you're right - this is what we'll do. I guess we've just tried to give him the benefit of the doubt throughout, which is daft given what he's said and done. Most people on here seemed to be of the opinion that we ought to hear him out before going off on one. When we spoke...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

Are you corgi registered, ChrisR? If you are, then we're legally bound to take your advice, right? :)

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

Didn't realise that - thanks. Looks like this is far from resolved then...will speak to the Corgi registered guy (the one we've found - not the mate of our plumber) tomorrow morning and take it from there.

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

Ok he's here now. Says that you can still buy and fit combi boilers but he's happy to replace ours with a condensing boiler so didn't argue the toss with him. Said he used to be corgi but now he gets a corgi-reg mate to come out, check the work and issue certs which is what he says he'll do for...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

We have spoken to him briefly and very politely on the phone (see previous post). We have stopped his cheque whilst we sort this out with him but haven't actually decided that we won't pay him - and wouldn't do something that drastic without speaking to him first and being 110% sure of our...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

Definitely. Discussed with him how they work and about the potential savings in our gas bills. When confronted today, he didn't question that we were expecting a condensing boilder, but said "yeah, this one is not condensing, but it is A rated, so that's the same thing..." which I disputed...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

See this is where me, as average Joe who knows nowt about it, gets confused. Someone else said "you pay peanuts, you get monkeys" as if we were naive to think we could get the work done properly at that price and are therefore at least partly to blame. Then you come along and say we're daft to...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

There is a 22mm Gas Supply under the floor boards but the bit going up to the boiler above the floorboards is 15mm. The bit under the floorboards looks like a redundant water pipe that's been converted possibly. I'm thinking we should turn the boiler off until a Corgi registered guy looks at it...

Before we pay the fella - is this cobblers?

Sorry the pic is sideways, but I'm as useless at PCs as at employing heating engineers. This is the flue outside. The boiler is upstairs in an airing cupboard in the extension at the back of the house. I take the point about my culpability in employing this fella - lesson learned and all...
