Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Correction to my last post, "I Blew the Bell/Strobe fuse" not the battery one. Cheers all

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Just an update as I persevered trying to resolve my problem on my own using the various comments people had made on this site, to help me with the fault finding. After a couple of blown panel fuses and a lot of frustration, I eventually added each zone one at a time, then added the PA wires...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

I linked out the whole board, booted the board up just on the battery, the alarm set ok after the 20sec exit time. I put the mains power to the board and checked the voltage, it was fine between 13vdc and 14vdc. I connected the 2 power wires to the detector these were the 2 wires to +-...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Sorry for asking more questions, but before I go ahead with the fault finding, I need to be clear in my head what you're telling me to do (otherwise I'll end up with another rollicking) I don't understand what you mean by 'add power to the detector only' My understanding so far is...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Sorry if i'm frustrating you, I'm not an alarm expert you know, I'm just a guy who fitted his own alarm several years ago who doesn't have any experience other than that. When you gave me instructions on what to do, I didn't want to keep asking you to put some meat on the bones giving me a blow...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Thanks for the help everyone, this is my latest update. 1) I stripped all the wires from the board linking everything out. 2) I then connected zone 1 to all the relevant points. 3) Connected the battery with the front panel off. This immediately triggered the alarm, I input my code and the...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Update on the Alarm saga. I decided to buy a new battery, put my test meter across the terminals and didn't get a reading, did the same on my old battery, no reading, turns out my old faithful multimeter had given up the ghost. Got my new meter out, tested both batteries, both reading over...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

It's ok fella's i'm keeping an eye on the comments before I do take the plunge with a battery replacement, don't know how I'm gonna check the charging circuit though. I took the battery off and only had 7.5v across the terminals and it's a 12v battery so that's indicating that either the...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Thanks alarm, so it sounds like my next step is a new battery. I'll purchase one and give it a try, at least it rules out something else.

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Hi all, I checked the fuses inside the control unit and they're ok. I also disconnected the bell wire repair, isolating the bell from the system, also ensuring that no bare wires could contact any others. Everything is still the same, all 4 zones light up when I put the code in and I get...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Thanks for that Alumina, I took your 1st replay about the battery the wrong way, my daft logic. I'm hoping the fuse will be the problem as the bell wire repair would be a right chew on to pull to bits as I put it together for ever.

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Thanks Sparymarka, that sounds like a good place to start, so this fus is the one inside the control unit? I remember changing that one before a few years ago.

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

Thanks for the replies I didn't think it would be the battery because my logic was that the mains power would still allow me to set the alarm and When my original battery failed I didn't have any problem setting the alarm, so just dismissed that as a cause. However as a couple of you think it...

Optima XM alarm Will not set.

I have an Optima XM 4 zone alarm, during some renovation work, the cable to the outside bell was accidently cut, I joined it back up and the alarm has been fine since then. Yesterday my wife tried to switch the alarm off after returning to the house, she didn't get the code in, in time and...

    Unable to fill radiators

No FAQ's doesn't mention checking for water level in the tank, maybe it's asssumed that if the reader is competent enough to tackle blockages and or fit a by-pass hose, then they'd have the nous to check the tank level......but you never know

    Unable to fill radiators

It's an open vented system, and I 've checked the FAQ's on the cold water partial blockage, very likely the cause, I'll investigate and try the filling method suggested in the FAQ`s, if it works, then I know there's a blockage that needs sorting. Thanks for the help and I'll feed back the...

    Unable to fill radiators

I took 3 rad's off upstairs during decorating. shut valves both sides of the rads, All have thermo controlled valves, so took caps off and tightened the centre piece down to close off. We used the central heating with those rads off. I've put all 3 back on again, and put the thermo valves...

ford ka t reg 1.3 central locking and.....

Thanks for that, I'm still having the problems and often have to unlock from the drivers side. I was given some graphite flakes, to put into the locks as putting WD would possibly 'cause' rust problems after a while. The graphite flakes didn't work, then I was a bit wary re-using WD in case it...

    Floor tiles on wooden floor

Hi I think I know what answer I'm gonna get, but hope I'm wrong. I've just had a guy do a job on the cheap, laying 12" ceramic floor tiles in the kitchen, He didn't lay plywood as per info I've read on previous threads on the forum. He used Flexible cement, that he mixed himself and flexible...
