    workmanship of roofing repair

Hi all, had main roof done recently, some issues (broken tiles, starter kits missing etc) but they came back and fixed them. I'm looking at doing a much smaller low level garage roof myself to save money having paid over the odds for this, there are a few shortcuts I'm sure they took, can you...

    Warped underground pipe coupling

If by whole section you mean back to the manhole that's not really feasible given its around 4m away, over 6ft deep..... and in the conservatory.

    Warped underground pipe coupling

Thanks for the suggestions, not sure what caused it but the stack has been poorly supported and has dropped by at least an inch judging by the movement of the clips revealing unpainted sections. I discovered the issue after noticing material had washed away around the base which had been hidden...

    Warped underground pipe coupling

Any suggestions on how to return this underground pipe to its correct shape so I can replace this split coupling that has been leaking? Hot water? Just leave it and use plumbers putty? Some kind of insert? 110mm soil pipe Thanks

    drainage channel repair/replace

Hi, found that a drainage channel which links into a shared kitchen drain has cracked and is not taking water where it should go. It seems to be a concrete cast channel which is in 2 x 1m sections. 80mm deep, 85mm wide. It's also dropped in the middle, any water bubbles through a hole, going...

    Silentrap did I need it?

Yes it's the mcalpine version, servicing isn't the solution because the replacement was brand new, never used before. I will see how it goes and try an antivac trap next.

    Silentrap did I need it?

Kitchen sink has been a bit smelly and started to leak from the silentrap part of the trap. I cleaned the trap and waste pipe and tried it out, same thing. Checked the pipe on the other side as there's a rinser, it was clogged so u cleaned that up too, still leaks. luckily I had bought a spare...

heating airing cupboard after move to combi

thanks for the responses, I already have an oil filled free standing so will give it a go on the lowest setting. I've seen a much smaller 500w oil filled free standing which I might look at but the comment re an 80W tubular looks interesting too as wall mounting is preferable.

heating airing cupboard after move to combi

thanks, I did think about that, but not convenient when the heating is off. I guess moving the thermostat in there and turning down all the other trvs in summer might have been an option, but the pipework has pretty much gone and I don't want to alter it now the system is installed.

heating airing cupboard after move to combi

my airing cupboard is now empty, having switched to a combi boiler. i want to keep using it as an airing cupboard so had planned to add a small electric wall heater to help dry / keep stuff dry. something like this (on a timer or thermostat)...

should this gas pipe be capped

Hi, we had a vented boiler converted to combi, this included upgrading a previously internal pipe to 22mm externally. The old pipe served only the boiler as we no longer have a gas oven, hob or fire. I told the fitter he didn't need to keep the old pipe live from the meter. I'm surprised that...

what happened here then, no power to meter

Thanks for the input, hopefully nothing damaged in the property at least, seems strange that a 16a breaker, 22 amp cable, RCD, consumer unit busbar and suppliers fuse were not the weakest link in this situation

what happened here then, no power to meter

i will check the rcd test button in the morning. Andy, not sure what you mean, I rang the grid to report the cut as did my neighbour. the guy from the grid didn't seem concerned or surprised, just said about a joint sorting itself out and that he couldn't say if or when it would happen again...

downstairs loo blockage, lifting indoor airtight manhole cover

sorted, in the end I didn't fancy doing it so got a plumber i've used before to have a look, 6ft manhole with blockage (probably baby wipes from the looks of it, despite us never putting them down so either my 5yr old or visitors!) nice and clear now, 40 quid well spent

what happened here then, no power to meter

had a boiler changed yesterday, vented to combi, so the immersion supply is now looking for a use. the fitter left the mcb off, this morning I wanted to check that the supply was still connected to the immersion switch by checking the the red light. switched the mcb on, went to the old...

downstairs loo blockage, lifting indoor airtight manhole cover

will do thanks, we had a blockage in the past and theirs was ok but that one cleared, but I will be checking with them again

downstairs loo blockage, lifting indoor airtight manhole cover

thanks, i'd wanted to avoid taking the loo off as the pipework is all concealed within it and I expect there is no isolation value like the rest of the pipework. sounds like it's more practical than lifting the cover though, so i might just get someone in who has more time than me! thanks

downstairs loo blockage, lifting indoor airtight manhole cover

hi, downstairs loo is blocked, no amount of plunger use has unblocked it (similar to this one) https://www.screwfix.com/p/professional-power-plunger/90321 . additionally, i've used some trade only unblocker which also hasn't done anything. It does empty, but takes around half an hour to do...
