Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

That's the MAP sensor, right enough......if the manifold is plastic it should come out fine. On a diesel, expect the thing to be coated in filth, courtesy of the EGR :( £2.22?? Usually around the £20 mark for a Bosch one. John :)

    Dipping toe into painting

I do think you’d have a chance with cellulose paints, but anything else I’d forget about it. Tekaloid, anyone? John

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Problems with the MAP sensor throw up trouble codes, do they not? They also often dual function as a manifold temperature sensor too. I don’t think this is your problem but I’d love to be proved wrong! John

Ford KA mk1 - fettling and diagnosis - First diy car service

Definitely give it a full service, which includes plugs and oil and all filters. It may, or may not have a fuel filter, so do determine that......generally they are just forward of the fuel tank. You may need a set of HT leads, if this engine has a separate coil pack - photos help here! Look...

    Speedo Malfunction

The recorded mileage won't be affected. There is a possibility that this sensor also functions as a 'motion sensor' - so if your luck is in.....! John :)

    Speedo Malfunction

The sensor is on the differential nearside, if I recall.....the plug is prone to water ingress but the sensor is easy enough to change. (Citroen gearbox). John :)

    Automatic into neutral at lights?

This one does a journey of 25 miles each way, and there is no plug in facility to charge it up from home.....that's taken care of by the petrol engine. I'd be disappointed with it if it was mine. John :)

    Automatic into neutral at lights?

I'll do that Alan - I haven't seen anything yet though, but that maybe just coincidence. Anyhoo.....my Yaris Cross = 57 MPG, down from 62 MPG in Summer; A pal's 73 plate Kia Sportage S/Charge hybrid - 37 MPG. Something out of order there.....no point of having a hybrid if that's all you are...

    Automatic into neutral at lights?

I have a Yaris Cross hybrid (72 plate) I press the brake hold button, and when the car stops (so long as I brake it) the brakes hold me until I move off again. I don’t touch the gear lever at these times. John

    Weird isn't it?

I'd contact ecutesting of Heanor for this one.....complete dashboard failures are common, and that affects everything else. John :)

Recommendations for new kitchen monobloc mixer tap

Looking at the Rangemaster logo, I think they are part of the AGA group so they should be fine. All spares are available from tapmagician. It's really only the cartridges and connection of the swan neck to the tap body that give issues anyway, so nothing to stop you going for it! John :)

Removing oil spills from tarmac driveway

Concentrated traffic film remover works well, jet washed off. John

Recommendations for new kitchen monobloc mixer tap

I guess the best reason for replacing like for like is that the water connections should be the same.....it all depends on how accessible the pipes are. I go for the traditional taps that Howdens offer, they seem ok but the choice is massive. I don’t like IKEA stuff or Victoria plumb but that’s...

Recommendations for new kitchen monobloc mixer tap

Just before you get stuck in..... Have you considered the likes of tapmagician.co.uk for replacement inserts? If that’s no good, choose a tap where parts are available from Howdens or whatever. The firm above sorted me out no bother and overnight delivery. Yours is the Blanco Max, and all parts...

I think there’s enough expertise here to help you out.....what can we do for you? John

Mountfield Mower/Briggs & Stratton cutting out

Ye gods, after 5 minutes running you would think it would be job done! Try running without the air filter, and then removing the air filter casing if you can - I can't understand how the primer bulb keeps collapsing! After that, its debris in the tank, clean filters etc I guess. John :)

    door savable?

I think we’ll need a close up of the wing edge....presumably the door wasn’t damaged by the impact so it’s the wing that’s causing the closing issue. With the bonnet open, is there any creasing of the inner wing? John

    door savable?

Very difficult to tell from here, but more important is the A pillar that holds the wing - that needs to be sorted first. If the car took a biff on the wheel, there may be wishbone damage too. I'd remove the wing first, and lets see from there. John :)

How's your luck with Premium Bonds?

We have the maximum between us, and the return last year was 5.2% so happy with that. It's really just a bit of a game for us, we don't need the cash. John :)

    MOT question

Fair comment. (Mottie) I would have raised this, but as the discs were crumbly anyway I'm happy to have replaced them. I guess the car would still have passed an MOT even if the discs were worn wafer thin......so long as they provided the necessary braking force. Honda would claim that they are...
