    Damp/wet garage floor

Yup think it's worth giving it a try, if it fails then try something else! I assume i'd have to remove the bitumen paint before using the tanking slurry. Any advise on the best way to do this - mechanically or chemically? Cheers....

    Damp/wet garage floor

Thanks for the reply. Probably willing to spend upto around £100-£150 or so - was looking at the KA tanking slurry and fillet seal to go between the wall and floor.

    Damp/wet garage floor

I've recently moved house, and I'm trying to solve an issue with the single skin double garage. The garage backs onto my garden, which is a lot higher than the garage and retained by a vertical row of sleepers. The side of the garage is also positioned close to a stone boundary wall...

    Ceiling cable routing

My understanding is that the cables still have to be in 'safe zones' though? Is the ceiling classes as a safe zone?

    Ceiling cable routing

Thanks for your replies - yes std. T&E. Will all be RCD protected - although this doesn't make a difference regarding safe zones does it as far as I am aware? So its OK resting on the plasterboard - technically this is less than 50mm from the ceiling surface though isn't it? Although I...

    Ceiling cable routing

When routing cables between joists in a ceiling, does the 50mm depth apply - i.e. where the cable hang down between the joists and rest on the plasterboard, this will be less than 50mm from the surface of the ceiling? If it does, how do you route the cables in the voids, so they don't rest...

    DIY rewire under building notice..

Hi all, thanks for your replies. I have not as yet started the rewire yet- just some investigation work lifting floorboards etc and working out where the existing runs lie. Also I am on the verge of submitting the building notice - not quite submitted yet -I've filled in the form and written...

    DIY rewire under building notice..

I've now got a nice new isolator fitted, and the main fuse uprated to 80A mo from 60amp - all FOC from EON / Southern Electric. I am going to be rewiring the house myself, under supervision of the LBA. First question I have is how do I retain the old system while installing the new? I...

    Combi or Megaflow (or equiv)?

Thanks Dave, we have another plumber coming tomorrow - I'll see what he suggests, but I am thinking now that maybe keeping a vented system is the way to go maybe with a bigger hot water tank, moved to the ground floor with a pump for the bathroom / shower room. That is assuming a vented system...

    Combi or Megaflow (or equiv)?

One of the guys quoting measured the flow rate at the kitchen tap at 18l/min.... For a more accurate rate is it best to measure at a couple of taps at the same time and add the results together? No one has yet measured the pressure, although I may do this tomorrow myself (I have a...

    Combi or Megaflow (or equiv)?

Something I should know about? - not been on here for long :) Regarding the comment about the Promax HE33 - we were assured that this could easily cope with more that one hot tap on at a time. (this is what we were worried about with a combi system) Have to say though the guy was more of a...

    Combi or Megaflow (or equiv)?

I am currently in the process of getting a few quotes for a new boiler to replace a floor standing potterton diplomat 70/80. The hot water system is currently fed via a vented hot water tank in the bathroom. We want to remove this tank and the tanks in the loft, and put the new tank (if we...

    Rewire - Equipotential bonding etc...

Yes, I already queried this as the building notice application form said on the back that if the installation was done by a non-qualified person or DIY then there may be an additional charge to pay for an electrical subcontractor to inspect the work. (My LABC is Solihull by the way) I sent...

    Rewire - Equipotential bonding etc...

Regarding the supply fuse upgrade, and isolator fitting - I have just had confirmation that this will be free of charge :D

    Rewire - Equipotential bonding etc...

Well just off the phone to Southern Electric (my provider). Booked in for the 15th April for a service fuse upgrade and isolator fitting. Surprised it was so easy! Not sure about any charges I did ask, but they didn't know just said he could book me in for an upgrade / isoloator just have to...

    Rewire - Equipotential bonding etc...

Thanks for that. I was actually intending to get the service fuse upgrade and isolator fitted before I did the re-wire and CU upgrade so the new CU can be wired in without havng to pull the main fuse and cut seals etc. Would it be better to get the upgrade done after I have completed the...

    Rewire - Equipotential bonding etc...

Thanks for the replies. The supply is either a TN-S or TN-CS - how do you tell? - There is a bare metal earth block next to the main fuse on the incomer - not sure if this indicates either? Is it best to put in the equipotential bonding in before they come out to do anything, or wait...

    Rewire - Equipotential bonding etc...

Hi, First post here so be kind! I am intending to do a DIY rewire of my property. I am aware of part P regs and I am going to be doing this under a building notice, where the LBA inspect and test. I am an electronics engineer by trade, and have been reading up 17th reg requirements...
