    lumpy ceiling

Sorry for the late reply. The skim I use is sold by Wickes but should be available anywhere. No - it's not applied from a tube in a gun, its sold in large tubs the size of a 20l. tub of emulsion paint and applied with a plastic spreader. You'll find it near the plasterboard in any DIY store...

    lumpy ceiling

You don't say whether the water damage is cosmetic or has caused damage (eg softened it or caused it to sag). If it is mainly cosmetic and there is not too much damage, all may not be lost. I am an amateur with no plastering skills. But - I have used plaster board skim to great effect on both...

    Indesit W123 Washing machine fault

This machine has 2 dials to r/h side of the panel. The far r/h dial is the programme selector and moves clockwise to indicate progress of the cycle. On selecting a programme (Normally No. 3), the neon indicator blinks as it should, then settles to 'on'. The machine takes in water, takes soap...

    Diagonal Wall Tiling

For Plugus-maximus. I would be inclined to tile off the worktop if it as level as you say. However, check distances to any window sills above as it is here any out of true will show most. Also you do not want small widths of tile at this level. Use plastic tile edges sold in all tile shops if...

    Diagonal Wall Tiling

This reply is probably a bit late but others may find it useful. If turning a corner (e.g. adjacent wall) it is important to have equal size tiles butting up into the corner or it looks odd. This calls for a lot of setting out but is well worth the effort. I managed this in the bathroom and...

    shower extractor fan

Cheers ban-all-sheds. I see you're based in France where my brother has a house. Are you familiar with French wiring as well as it seems very different. (Thinking of any problems you may be able to help with in the future)

    shower extractor fan

:D Thanks a lot for the lively discussion, guys (& gals?) I find the points raised very helpful particularly the issues on fusing and the discussion on a potentially dangerous bridge. For safety sake I think I'll install an untimed fan with an in-line lowered fuse to protect the fan. Good...

    shower extractor fan

Can I wire an extractor fan with or without a timer delay from a shower cubicle from the ceiling switch operating an electric (instant hot water)shower so that both operate together? I suspect the answer may be different with/without a timer.
