    Safe Boiler Water Pressure

Thanks, I've dropped the pressure to 1.3, and (so far) it appears to be working. I've got an engineer booked, but he can't come out until next week, and and really don't fancy being without heating at the moment, so hopefully it'll continue to work!

    Safe Boiler Water Pressure

Hi, A couple of days ago I discovered my boiler pilot light was out and the water pressure gauge read zero, I managed to repressurize the system, and after several attempts, got the gas to stay on when the heating was switched on (ie. the pilot light stayed on when no water was being drawn...

    Electric Shower Wiring

When fitting my 45A pull switch, can I mount it directly to the ceiling (after cutting out the appropriate lump of ceiling), or do I have to use a mounting box? If I need a mounting box, should I go for the 32mm version or the 16mm version? Thanks

    earth bonding in bathrooms

Hmmm...had a look around my bathroom, and unless it's under the floorboards, there's no supplementary bonding! Is this possible? If so I guess this is something else I'll have to do in conjunction with fitting this [place appropriate word here] shower!!

    earth bonding in bathrooms

I have installed the plumbing to an electric shower, taking the feed from the bath cold water supply, using copper pipe and brass compression fittings. The final inlet on the shower is a plastic pipe. The shower will be earthed via the 10mm sq T&E cable to the CU. I assume the new plumbing...

    Electric Shower Wiring

Thanks for all the info. My current board is 4 way and black, so I guess it's a 60A. I've decided to go with the 12 way split load Wylex board, given the fact that this project is already way over budget. I'm planning on doing the work myself, and then getting an electrician to check it...

    Electric Shower Wiring

There's no mention of the rating of the Wylex, the only reference I can find is the rating of the main service fuse (60A), although I've decided to upgrade my cu anyway, at least then I'll have the added safety of the RCD. Fortunately my electricity supplier is happy to upgrade my main fuse...

    Electric Shower Wiring

Sorry to question, but having checked the fuse I'm going to remove, the fitting is identical to the MCB I have, so it will fit straight into the current Wylex cu, is it possible that I have a newer cu that will accept over 32A, or am I missing something obvious? Even if I can get away with it, I...

    Sealing around a compression joint

Hi, I've just plumbed a shower in using compression fittings, and out of the 9 connections, 4 are leaking very slightly. Can someone please confirm that they will stop leaking after a while (preferrably before my living room becomes a swimming pool :-P). I've tried loosening them off and...

    Electric Shower Wiring

Okay, I've now finished sobbing quietly...:-P Things never go smoothly! and from what's been said, I'm not going to get this shower running as soon as planned. So the overall recommendation is go for something like: this (just as an example) Remove the Wylex CU, and rewire the...

    Electric Shower Wiring

Hi, I'm currently installing a 9.5kw shower, I have 10mm T&E cable, and was planning on running it to an old Wylex consumer unit (which uses blade fuses), I have a 45A Plug-in MCB to replace a 30A fuse which was used for an electric cooker. My main fuse is a 60A, will this be enough to cope...
