    Stickers (lables) for CCU

When I bought my little garage CU (Volex) it came with a sheet of about 8 stickers - the words on them are not garage-specific, so I assume the packers pull them out of a huge box and stuff one in each CU. Maybe the helpdesk at one of the CU manufacturers would bung a few sheets your way? Or...

    Stickers (lables) for CCU

Oh come on Ban, you know he's talking about a CU! Albert, you obviously have a PC; get a few sheets of label paper and you can print an labels you like ....

    Another service fuse question

Looking at the pic of the wider view; the meter board seems to be held to the wall via a screw and spacer at each corner. If these were removed, is there enough flexibility in the incoming cables to safely move the whole board - meter, fuse and all - enough to withdraw the fuse?

2 spurs from a junction box

Surely the riskiest thing about this is somebody (even onesself) coming along later and adding some other cct to the SOURCE side when they think (and the terminals say) they've added it to the LOAD side?

    Static Shock

How do elec fences work? Do I recall someone telling me they're low-voltage DC, or have I made that up?

    T+E and 13A plug

I don't think there's any way of heating water there, other than electrically (no hot tank etc) - heating is plug-in convectors, hot water in the kitchenette is via that device described in my initial post .... I'll have a look

    T+E and 13A plug

Nope, they're definitely individual electric ones - I'll have a proper look next time I'm there

    C&G 2381/2391

Thanks for that. I'll see whether any of the colleges around here (Surrey) 'stoop' to such things or whether they're too busy with 'Flower Arranging 3' and 'Advanced 4x4 Techniques for the School Run'

    T+E and 13A plug

May well be - as I said, I haven't seen the CU or incoming power arrangements

    T+E and 13A plug

I think it was 8 - I'll try to get a photo (when they're empty, you'll be pleased to hear). Dunno what power they are ...

    C&G 2381/2391

I know this is a 'how long's a piece of string' question but ... If I were to do either 2381 and/or 2391, what options do I have (types of establishment, courses, duration etc) and what is likely to be the (range of) costs? I have a 9-5 job so would prefer out-of-hours, correspondence or...

    T+E and 13A plug

Yep .... except this isn't really a pub-type-club, it's just a little 1-storey brick-built thing by the pitch, with changing rooms etc and a little kitchenette. I know what you mean though, my local hostelry has spot lights screwed to ancient beams and conencted up with a mix of T+E, 2-core...

    T+E and 13A plug

Thanks guys. I don't know the RCD arrangements (if any) as I haven't seen the CU area. I think I can probably guess though, looking at everything else (multiple unfused spurs surface-clipped off one ring socket, 8 electric showers with no visible equi bonding anywhere, loose or broken...

    T+E and 13A plug

I don't. But I don't want them to get hurt. And I have no authority to call in a spark, as I'm not even a club member, let alone committee. And they won't call one in, coz it's already on the cards for some (elastic) time in the future. Maybe I'll just keep my head down. How unsafe is it...

    T+E and 13A plug

My girlfriend is secretary of a local football club; when I was there on Saturday I noticed that the kitchen water heater (one of those wall mounted barrel-shaped things with a chrome pipe outlet over the sink) was powered by a length of twin and earth terminated in a 13A plug and plugged into...

    DIY SOS this week.

Ah. I have a striplight (the sort that goes over a mirror) with a shaver socket - it's in the shed somewhere, it's not installed. How can I tell whether that has an isolated output? If it hasn't, presumably better in the bin?

Vegetarians? I couldn't bring myself to eat one of those. It's the way they look at you, all innocent  What IS a '1G shaver socket', anyway ...........?

If we're not supposed to eat animals, why're they made of meat? :)

RCD's for kitchen pelmet lights - am I being conned?

Certainly sounds 'well dodgy' - I think you're doing the right thing having a spark (family or otherwise) have a look .... on the basis of your experience so far, it sounds like it would be well worth letting a spark have another look when they've finished .... what say the pro sparks here?

RCD's for kitchen pelmet lights - am I being conned?

t would be nice to know who the 'major DIY chain' might be, so we can look out for the practice?
