I agree - and sometimes, counterintuitively, you can free up nails by tapping them in a touch before getting them up.
...and once you've a board or two up, you might be able to lever them up from underneath, with a bar or chisel between the board and joist

You could try just heating the rooms you're in.
We don't heat empty rooms, and we don't have heating on at night.
We keep doors closed between rooms whenever possible.

If it's plasterboard, you might find that you can pull the cable out if you first remove the plaster around each end of it.
One thought - if the built in cupboards are on external walls, they will provide an ideal environment for damp and mould (unless you insulate the wall behind them)
So maybe if you look at the diagram, and identify which ingredients of the dogs dinner you want to replace, then it might be possible to tell you if you can feed it from the inside...
