    Strange polystyrene in vent

    Hi Guys, I have just found out that I have polystyrene wedges in the vent that leads outside from the cooker extractor fan. Is this normal? Can I remove it to hopefully increase airflow? i have attached an image. I am baffled why it was put there in the first place
