Strange polystyrene in vent

Hi Guys,

I have just found out that I have polystyrene wedges in the vent that leads outside from the cooker extractor fan.

Is this normal? Can I remove it to hopefully increase airflow?

i have attached an image.

I am baffled why it was put there in the first place

Looks like someone tried to block it up.........badly.

That's what I thought... strange as its the one that actually is connected. Bodge job central our house

Perhaps they thought it was noisy outside - so made baffles like an old skool car silencer. Something I did on a larger scale to an extractor at an hotel. Though I made a baffle box outside as the outlet was @ ground level and measured about 1mx500mm
