IN MY BATHROOM 2 SPOTLIGHTS AND 1 SPOTLIGHT/EXTRACTOR FAN WITH A TIMER ARE BOTH ON THE SAME SWITCH , WHICH IS VERY ANNOYING WHEN YOU GO IN TO HAVE A WASH AND THE FAN RUNS ON AFTER SWITCHING THE LIGHTS OFF. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE BUILDER THAT EVERY TIME I USE THE BATHROOM THE EXTRACTOR MUST COME ON TO GET RID OF THE MOISTURE. IS THIS IB THE REGS AND CAN I PUT THE SPOTLIGHT/EXTRACTOR FAN ON A SEPARATE SWITCH.

i asked exactly the same questions last year to some very freindly engineers at airflow http://www.airflow.co.uk/products/ventilation.asp

the builder is right... just because you've switched the light off it doesn't mean all of the moisture has been taken out of the room. yes.. i know how annoying it is when you go into the bathroom for one minute and the fan goes on forever

you can found out how long the fan needs to be on and adjsut the timer accordingly so that it isn't running for longer than necessary. with a little help from the guys at Airflow this is what I did and i'm pretty happy with it. you need to know the room size in cubic metres and the technical specs of the fan etc. if you need any more info let me know and i'll try and dig it out.

The builder is half-right. Building Regs say you have to have a fan, but they don't compel you to use it.

You can put the fan on a separate switch if you want to.

Alternatively replace it with one with a humidistat....
