ok first off long time reader first time poster.... :)

I have 2 questions that I hope you wouldn't mind looking at for me

1)

I will be getting a all singing all dancing shower with body jets, however I am concerned that my Worcester combi boiler (CDi xxxx cant remember the model number will fill it in tonight) will not be up to the job. I have seen a few topics were people have said that you are not allowed a pump on the system to boost the hot / cold water. is this true ?

2)

My current headache. my house has 4 floors and hot water works fin on the 1st,2nd and 4th however on the third floor the hot water comes out like a dribble and thus is not powerful enough to turn the boiler on.

I am also having problems in that room with the C/H as the rad is full but dose not heat up, I have tried 100's of things to diagnose the problem but still no luck.

I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem I don't think it is a lock but could be wrong, as I understand it if there was a lock on the 3rd floor the 4th would not work either?

So if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

Kind Regards
Volos

I lay absolutely no claim to being clever (a bit of a thicky actually), but I seriously doubt whether any conventional combi could power a multi jet shower. Maybe a storage combi could as long as you didn't spend too much time in it.

As to your radiator problem, it sounds like you may have a blockage. I assume you can pressurise it OK, but of course this would work if either flow or return was clear.

Dunno about your 3rd floor problem - this is mains pressure water after all. Maybe you just have a blocked filter or aerator - is there anything that looks like it might come off with a spanner?

The system holds the pressure fine the Rad's through the rest of the house are fine and give good heat, it just seems to be this one. nothing looks out of place no signs of any leaking or corrosion. The one thing that does seem odd is that the hotwater has a problem with pressure to.

Rads have no connection with hot water except they are heated byt he boiler. I suspect you have a blockage.

ok, another rad enema coming up again tonight,

I was just wondering again with regards to the pump situation, is there any reason i can't put a in-line pump on the Hot water pipe if the pressure is not high enough?

thanks again

Like many people you are confusing pressure and flow.

Flow is the volume in a given time. Measured in litres per minute for combi boiler outputs ( heated by 35*C increase ).

Most older combi boilers give 9 litres per minute, newer one sometimes a little more like 11 or 13 li/min.

You need to check your new shower to see what flow rate it needs. On an upper floor the pressure will not be very high and may not exceed 0.3 bar. A fancy shower is usually designed to be fed from a storage tank or via a high flow mains connection.

Read the first part of my post, I said rads have no connection to the hot water. You said you had a problem getting water out of a hot tap. Is that right?

If so have the enema yourself and clear the blockage to the tap.

Don't think you should try and pump mains water, or hot water from combi, same thing really.

Maybe your TRV's on 3rd floor are stuck... try removing TRV head and checking the pin moves freely... if not, tap with a hammer and put vaseline on them, before refitting trv head.

Does tap on 3rd floor have a strainer or mesh built in? They can block, especially in hard water areas.

Ok thanks for the support i got with the issue. In the end i decided that the only way to fix this was to check the pipes that i could not see. Up came the floor and lo and behold the hot water pipe has been forced into a small hole with the radiator return pipe. After making a cutting before and after said hole it was quite clear what the problem was the pipes had two nasty kinks where they tried bending (with no sucsess) to sit in the hole. New pipe's in house is warm hot water to was the flux from my hands, Mrs Volos is happy.

Thanks again for suggestions and help.
