2 switches for 2 lights

I've got a 2 hall lights 1 upstairs 1 down like most people .At present i can control the upstairs light from up or down switch but the downstairs light can omly be used from down stairs.i want to turn both lights from up or down stairs.Do i wire up the 2 circuits seperate with 2x 3core+E between both switches or can i use the exsiting 3core+E for both circuits.

Depends on whether you want to have both lights go on and off together, or not...
 
you're gona have to replace both switches (upstairs and downstairs) with 2gang switches. then supply each of the gangs with its own 3core (ie 2 3core cables to each switch). so that the two 'circuits' are separate.
