3 Gang wiring on and off

I have just replaced the kitchen 3 gang - 2 way light switch. I rewired it one by one, Gang 1 common(old switch) to common(new switch) and L1(old) to L1(new). Gang 2 common(old) to common(new) and L1, with 2 wires(old) to L1(new) and Gang 3 the same. The lights all work, however the gang 1 and gang 3 turn off when you them down and on when you press them up. Inverse to the middle gang. The switch itself could be upside down, but still the problem reamains that one of the switches will be the opposite way when all the lights are on or off. Is it something I have done incorrectly or is it a fautly switch.
