Our CH is not working, it can only be forced to come on via the hot water settings. We think it may be a problem with the motor in the 3 way valve but can't find it - can someone advise?

Find the pump and cylinder and the 3 port valve will be close by.By the way why are you posting this in two places.It does confuse matters.
if you can get heating with hw on then it won't be the motor more likely the micro switch.
