Ok so as from this morning my 30 amp fuse on the main box has started tripping
Never done it before . It does the kitchen sockets and upstairs sockets. So I have unplugged everything up and in the kitchen. Reset. Pop it goes......why?.
Is there a way to fault find for a novice at electrics...

Is it the MCB ( works like a fuse when there is too much current flowing )

Or is it the RCD ( trips when electricity is leaking to earth through a fault )

The RCD will have a test button and be marked 30 mA which is 30 milli Amps ( one amp = 1000 milli amps )

It's the rcd then as it has a test/reset button on it. It's strange as never had a problem .no work done anywhere. Just now tripping.cant see any problems with sockets. Upstairs or in kitchen

If you really have unplugged/disconnected everything from the circuit (including boilers etc.), then the problem must be with wiring and/or accessories (like sockets). Water in sockets, junction boxes etc. can make RCDs trip - is there any possibility that this has happened?

You may well have to get an electrician to locate the cause of the problem.

Kind Regards, John
