I can understand why you'd think that.

European and international names for lightbulb bases are in logical sets

e.g. GU4 is 4mm pin spacing, GU10 is 10mm

E27 is a 27mm screw, E14 is a 14mm screw.

B22 is a 22mm bayonet, B15 is a 15mm bayonet

However MR16 is a term of American origin. It doesn't refer to the pins. It refers to the size of the glass and the type of reflector. Its's "Multifaceted Reflector" with 2 inch glass.

Because it measures 16 eighths of an inch in diameter.

Obviously.

Measure your pin spacing in mm.

The flickering is probably a loose connection somewhere along the supply or switch, but, if they are "low voltage*" with a sort of "transformer*" it might be a fault there.

If you have a fault and need to replace the kit, you can probably get mains voltage LED lamps that are a reasonable equivalent. They will run cooler, last longer, use less electricity and don't need a "transformer*" they might be a better replacement.

*these are terms about which there is interminable argument. It is very dull and will not help you.

Thanks for that. They are 4mm apart (centre of pin to center). The old and new bulbs both say 12V so I guess that means transformer
They have been installed when flat was built 10 years back. I know nothing about electrical fittings so I guess this is an electrician job then, would you agree.
By the way, it's a 2 light switch and both bulbs flicker.
