Hello, Looking to improve acoustic noise reduction on my floor, between me and neighbour below. They have already had the ceiling cavity filled with rockwall or similar but I don't think the builder did a very good job, no resilent bars for platerboard, voids missed.
Anyway I am reluctant to pull boards up, so looking at an over flooring solution. It seems any product marketing itself as 'acoustic' is well over priced.
So I am looking at getting some fibre board, then over lay that with rubber matting, then mdf over top of that, this basically seems to be a very similar construction to pre-made solutions at a fraction of the price.
The three combined would build up to be anywhere between 10mm to 20mm
Would welcome 'constructive' input on that idea, and what if any building regs need to be met, seems fibre board and mdf okay, but not sure about the rubber matting it terms of domestic use, fire etc.
I know it may not provide absolute silence but I think that, along with eventually new underlay and carpet will make a big improvement, along with sorting all the squeaky boards out.
