Hi

I have just fitted an 'S' bend to our kitchen sink waste pipe to stop smells coming up from the drain, now the sink water drains really slowly. Its so bad that when the washing machine empties it backs up the pipe and in to the sink.

Why would adding an 'S' bend slow the drainage flow? And what can I do to sort the problem out?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Yes the drain is clear and drained very well until I put the 'S' bend in.

I have been scouring the net for info and I wonder if my problem is because I already have a bottle trap connected to the sink (I didn't realise that this had a water trap in it)

The preperation sink (small middle sink) however does not have a bottle trap and the smell could have been coming up this pipe and so maybe I should remove the 'S' bend altogether and just fit a bottle trap to the preperation sink?

What do you think?

Thanks, Stu

sounds like a better plan

you could fit an hepv0 trap
