hi all,

i want to add a 2nd light to my bedroom - the current one is down one end - and the wife wants the new one at the other end, by our built in wardrobes. quite happy to have both on at the same time using one switch

is the best way to set out in the wiki (2 Lights on one switch using loop in method), and just wire in the new light and have a couple wires going into each one of the terminals for LNE on the original pendant. (wasnt sure if this is allowed under part p?)

or the other way i was thinking was to just completely wire the new light into the circuit and then wire the 2 switch live + the cable from the switch into a junction box?

thanks
alex

Run new 1mm2 T&E cable from the old ceiling rose to the new one.
At the old rose connect the brown cable to the Switch Live side (the one that connects to the pendant live), the blue cable to the neutral side and the earth to the earth.
At the new rose connect the brown to the Switch Live side (the one that connects to the pendant live), the blue to the Neutral side ( the one that connects to the pendants neutral) and the earth to the earth terminal.
Not notifiable under part p.

Part P and notification are two completely separate issues. Non notifiable work still has to comply with Part P.

Link the new fitting up to the old fitting.
With 1.00mm T&E
The brown to live side of light fitting (not the loop, if looped in)
The blue to neutral side of light fitting
View media item 41403
New core colours
Brown=Red (phase/live/line)
Blue=Black (neutral)
Green/Yellow=Green/Yellow (CPC/earth)

thanks for the replies guys. the way you suggested was what i was originally planning and just wanted to check. :)

i only brought up part p, because i didnt know if there was any rules on amount of wires stuffed into a terminal on the fitting, or is it based on "common sense"

AFAIK the standard ceiling rose is expected to take one conductor per terminal entry. Adding more to connect a fan is commonly done, and not regarded as dodgy, so adding a 2nd light would be ditto.
