Adding more sockets to lounge

I would like to add 2 or 3 more double sockets in my lounge. I would rather no mess is made.

I have spoken to an electrician. He said it can depend on where wiring currently is and where I want extra sockets. He also spoke about the possibility of running a cable along the skirting board. Is this any different to using standard extension sockets?

Last question, can an electrician come with the equipment ready to go, ie install on first visit to house, or would he need to come have a look, assess requirements then go away and come back to do job?

Aesthetics vary from one set of eyes to the other, I would never want surface cabling anywhere in my or my clients house.

So that would mean chopping in back boxes and chasing in cables and then re-plastering.

Depending on the condition of the fabric / plaster (will it blow)depends on the amount of damage.

I did a job recently where 6 sockets that existed in the skirt were removed and refitted above the skirt in to the wall. Carefully done with swiss cheese drilling and a dremel (with stone cutting wheel) meant that other than a 2" x 3/4" chase between skirt and box there was no damage !

Provided you are clear with the contractor there is no reason why they couldn't turn up, quote and do work at the same visit. Since the survey would amount to 5 minutes I wouldn't expect to charge (nor would anyone else) so I don't really understand why a one visit survey / quote / install would be required.

Silly things such as type of faceplate required, tooling, floor lifting, furniture movement my prevent a single visit job.
