Hi All, I currently have a 50,000BTU (pretty old) Boiler with 10 Rads on it. All single except for one Double

I have estimated the BTUs of each of these (using ratings for new ones of a similar size) and the total comes to 43k

I want to add bigger Rads to 2 rooms but this would take the total BTU of them all to 53k. The BTU required for each room is approx 5400 but my Rads are rated 8300 for some future-proofing (ie: I can always turn them down!)

What are the ramifications of this? Will the boiler not be able to cope? How important is BTU of boiler versus the rads?

I will renew the whole CH one day as it seems under-spec'd for the size but have not got the cash at the moment. In the meantime, it seems daft to do up 2 rooms and leave old crap rads in.

Most grateful for any advice.

Regards
Simon

replace the radiators. it may mean the boiler may struggle to get them up to temperature as the maximum heat output will not change. as you say, you can always turn the new ones down or some of the existing ones down (wouldn't recommend completely off since you don't want icebox effect of cold room next to warm) - it's amazing how many rooms we heat up which we don't go into that often

stick trv's on all the rads bar the one where the roomstat is, and all will be fine
