Hi,

Just researching the various insulation methods, here's my thinking so far...

1 - Keep existing insulation and add space boards and loft boards on-top. Would I cut grooves into the joists to ensure the electrical wires are under the top of the joists to allow boards to be fitted ?

2 - Adding rafter insulation boards like these, and keeping the ~50mm free for ventilation:

Here are the pics of the loft as it is now......

Thanks in advance

definately don't sandwich your electrical cables in insulation! the cables could the overheat if you do. they should be on top of any insulation to allow any heat to dissipate. you'll probably find you don't have enough slack to do this though.

suspect some of the better roofing experts might question ventilation as your insulation appear to run all the way to the eaves. though you have no felt under the tiles so maybe ok.

Don't cut the joists to allow room for cables, notch spacing timbers. Don't sandwich cables in insulation as they may overheat. Don't put polystyrene insulation next to PVC cables as the cable insulation can become brittle and crack.

thanks all.

Looks like I will loft board a small area with spacebboard and loftboard, and space blanket the rest.

cheers
