AEG Dishwasher

Hi all
I have just moved into a flat which has a AEG Favorit 50750 V1 dishwasher. When I opened the door there was smelly water inside.
I closed the door and switched on the machine and the water drained away. I ran the machine on a cycle without any pots inside but I heard a warning tone that was three short pips,then a pause, then three short pips again. At this point I switched off the machine, and did not use it again. However the smelly water has returned. Has anyone any idea what is wrong with it.

The smelly water is probably back fill from the sink. Have a look under the sink, if the dishwasher waste pipe is onto a spigot make sure the pipe goes up from the spigot as high as possible before it drops back down to the dishwasher.
