.....What followed was a lengthy police investigation in Britain and Afghanistan and court cases costing at least £3 million.
Officers, under armed escort, made several trips to Afghanistan and tracked down the warlord's victims.....

Are we being stitched up again?

What stupid laws allow such a mismanaged asylum system to exist? LINK

Do we as a whole feel that we should police the world? What about WMD then?
Worse, should we be paying for it?
£3M for the rich lawyers, but disdain for our own :-
...Charities have accused the government's costing watchdog of stalling over whether to quash dementia drug restriction proposals.
The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) proposed in March to restrict four Alzheimer's drugs because they are not good value for money....
Compared to inviting a guest into our country then using our taxes to pay for legal fees proving that person to be a criminal, then having to fund the incarceration ..... The Altz' drugs look like decent value.

it's ridiculous. they shouldn't have been allowed into the country in the first place. if they manage to get through, leave them in isolated detention centres out in the middle of nowhere, while their claims are processed. this would itself act as quite a deterrent to false applicants, and help to keep costs down.

i don't mind them sorting this guy out, but the money spent is ridiculous. sort our own country out first, before sorting out others. and how did this bloke get in anyway?

....and how did this bloke get in anyway?

Someone with eye to the main chance? .. Paid off for some did it not?
£3million .... 120 man years at £25000 gross per annum !
But, at an approx £18.6k net of stoppages ... 161 man years!

We could have bought out a few poppy harvesters for that
..The UN estimates the average income per poppy farmer will reach several thousand dollars this year compared with only $400-$600 dollars in previous years. The problem for the eradication programme is that it is offering farmers just $350 to give up one-fifth of a hectare of opium poppy production...
Bold by Pipme.

Maybe £3M could have helped open up new earning opportunities for the farmers?

$350 at $1.75 / £1 = £200
£3million could have bought off a bit here, at offer price even ... 3,000 Hectares, or more than 7,400 acres... 30 Km²

Actual situation could well have the opposite effect, if you get my drift !

..Tony Blair, who at the Labour party conference two years ago promised to eradicate the opium poppy harvest as part of the war against Afghanistan.
"We act also because the al-Qaida network and the Taliban regime are funded in large part from the drugs trade - 90% of all heroin sold in Britain originates from Afghanistan. Stopping that trade is again directly in our interests,"...

:D :D :D :D :D

Spoken like a true aerospace engineer!

It costs an estimated £11,000 to remove each failed asylum-seeker.

Right, 250,000 people. That's 300 A380 flights on full load. A chance for a publicly-funded private initiative methinks?

i will supply my service free of charge ( LABOUR ONLY MIND) sandwhiches etc

cuckoo land has its moments my friend so you think our government hasnt got bloood on its hands ? think on if it suits them they can do wonders with a 9mm and the keys to the crematorium

If you want crazy, what about Fowzi Nejad? He's the one terrorist who survived the Iranian Embassy Siege 25 years ago, and is up for parole this year. If he goes back to Iran, he'll be executed. So, we aren't allowed to deport him!

Great, so we have a convicted terrorist who took British citizens hostage in the UK (albeit in the Iranian embassy), living in our country, and currently it looks like we'll give him asylum!!!

The b*stard is lucky to be alive, one of the SAS soldiers was marching him back indoors to meet Mr Bullet when his comrades noticed and had to grab him back (although on a documentary they pointed out that if it hadn't been for the TV cameras and the crowds, they would have let him! )

i think he should have asylum here he is entitled to all that is coming his way and it will come to him a lot faster if he is in the uk

then again i would not lock anyone up that done hanus crimes better to let mob rule deal with it

familys that lose loved ones want to see justice and that doesnt mean 25 yrs in jail

As it turned out, they were all trained and equipped by Sadam Hussein. Remember that if you want yet another argument to use with Conchies about justifying the war in Iraq ;)

............ trained and equipped by Sadam Hussein.. Who was himself equipped by .... Rumplestiltskin himself...
