:?: My central heating system has toomuch air and that causes the boiler to overheat and shut down. This problem was there about 14 years ago when the system (new) was put in. After a while the problem seem to have gone, but please note that the pump was never set above 2 and the boiler temp same or below. The same problem started now when we fitted a new boiler. The system is an " open vented " with 2 motorised valves and a hot water cylinder. I have bled the radiators to get the air out but more seem to be produced. Any ideas anyone?

Is the system correctly piped - probably not, if the problem is long-standing. Possibly air is being drawn down the open vent pipe. If this has been going on for a while, chances are that you have severe corrosion in your radiators and a system full of black / brown sludge.
Air is a killer of central heating system, especially when it is getting in contnuously.
Get someone in who knows what they're doing and be prepared for a large bill.

is the pump on the return pipework. This can create air problems.
