Hi all
I know it seems obvious that storage heaters are power hungry but hear me out.
I bought a house in France with electric panel heaters a few years ago and after using modern storage heaters in Cornwall for many years I decided to swap these panel heaters for cheap 2nd hand modern storage heaters, I bought 4 (2x2.8kw, 2x1.8kw) for under £200 and shipped them over, a lot of people dont know how to use these properly so sell em off cheap, i generally use 2 of them, 1 occasionally in a rental part and the other one is redundant, they run overnight at cheaper rate (circa 18c/14p per kwh). They probably cost 5 euros avg per night each larger unit 3-4€ for the smaller unit.
We do have a wood burner for when its really cold but at 250-300€ for 3 cubic meters of wood, is that viable, not sure, i get sick of cleaning the fire out, makeinga fire and the dust it creates so I dont bother much plus cleaning the chimney etc
Whilst these heaters are very reliable and no need for servicing etc they're okay at best, these have the blow fan and extra 800w/1500w element top up if wanted/required, they do get to 6pm okay, we're at home all day too so no gaps between work etc so 6pm and they can start to get weaker, they start heating again at 9.30pm and noticable heat back before 10.30pm.
The DPE assessment of the house, amongst other things recommends to have air source or ground source heating but these will be running during the day at higher rate (25c.20p per kwh).
I am tempted to buy and install 2 or 4 unit air con/heaters so maybe 1300€ or 2300€
What do these pumps run at (kw) ? esp during colder days
I'm hoping a few solar panels could run the air source pump (sun allowing), but could that create problems/faults if it runs low on power ?
Maybe solar/battery system (3-4k)
I notice the storage heater maker (Elnur) have these same looking heaters have solar mentioned in the info now but 2.8kw would need a big setup.
