I have 2 of these in my upper level external wall. The external walls are solid block construction.

I may as well leave the window wide open. The amount of air that gets sucked through these is crazy and in the cold weather makes you not want to go in the room at all.

I understand they are there to help reduce the potential for damp but in a well heated modernized house can they be bricked up. I am insulating all of the external walls and think it will be a waste of time if i leave these 2 open.

And what are your plans for the moisture you produce that would otherwise get sucked through this with the rest of the air?

If you are insulating the rest of the house, then presumably its not being done randomly but as part of some specified design. And part of that will be the need for ventilation and extraction. See if that assessment requires it to stay.

BTW, draught-free vents are available.

I was planning on having the new windows to be fitted with trickle vents in all rooms so that there is air flow throughout.

Whether that is adequate will need to be considered in the design risk assessment for the EWI
