HI, ISTR someone mentioned that after January 2019 (or what is the date?) all sockets must be protected by an RCD.

Can y'all please update me with what says so, does this apply to commercial premises?

What are the specifics of this requirement and what are the work arounds?

Cheers.
Matty

18th regs 411.3.3, is for socket outlets not exceeding 32 amp, for Non dwellings Rcd can be omitted subject to a risk assesment.
RCD Will also be required for Domestic lighting circuits

What about "having a house that was built before 1/1/19?"

Why do you need a work around? BS7671 is not law. Personally since 1994 all sockets in my house have been RCD protected, if you have young or old people in the house it makes sense.

Ypu've been told about the specifics. As for workarounds, at least for a good while, there is the standard one that not only is conformity with BS7671 not mandatory, but new or changed regulations in new editions thereof are 'not retrospective'.

Kind Regards, John

Hey John, I'm just trying to figure out what the supposed qualified sparkies at my place will do.
Probably ignore it as usual.

I obviously can't tell you the answer to that - you would have to ask them!

I'm not sure what 'your place' is but, as has been said, if it is not a residential dwelling, they will have the discretion to omit RCD protection for (new) sockets if appropriate on the basis of a risk assessment.

Kind Regards, John

OK, now where can I find risk assessment forms for writing in crayon or big markers?

Of course I'm only joking, they would never dream of doing anything like fill out a form, not even a installation test sheet of any kind... lol
