As per the title.....

My FIL has managed to damage the rim of 2 alloys on his Volvo V70.

Ive been looking for alloy repair companies in Gatwick area, if anybody can rocommend or offer advice it be much appreciated.

Should I try a mobile franchise, or cant the mobile guys do much of decent repair out if a van?

Or should I take to one with a bricks n mortar workshop?

Reviews of this type of service generally seem very mixed

Cheers TIA

Though I am unable to provide a recommendation for your area, when faced with a similar predicament myself recently (though it was my car) I ended up using as local dent repairers, my logic being that as they wanted the car overnight (courtesy car was no extra charge) to ensure they could do a proper job so I would get a better job, it was no more expensive than a mobile bloke.

my specialist garage recommended a firm called Wheel Specialist. They heat and straighten wheels, they also beadblast and stove-enamel them to a high standard, and I believe can weld repair, although I did not have that done. I've previously had wheels resprayed at a bodyshop, which looks OK but is not as durable.

IIRC it was about £100 per wheel. Split rims much more. Getting the inner part of the drum done makes them easier to keep clean and protects against corrosion.

They have a place in Farnborough which is not very close to Gatwick.

If yours is a common car, you might get new or used wheels at a good price, some wheel refurbishers have an exchange scheme.

Your local tyre specialist may know a local firm.

Some tyre depots use a company called Spit n Polish in Maidstone who do a collection service. They did a badly kerbed wheel for me and it was better than the others.

Many thanks for the advice, really useful Ill have a look at some of the more local options.

Im thinking going to a workshop might hive a better result than a mobile franchisee.

If anybody has used a mobile service that would really interesting. Ive used event tyres a few times now for tyres which works great, but fitting tyres and repairing alloys is a big difference
