ANTI KETTLING ADDITIVE

Sorry if this is a bit of a basic question but how long should adding this prevent the boiler from kettling

I put some in my system about 14 months since and alls been fine but this last week the rumblings and rattlings have returned

I am coming to the conclusion I need to get the whole system drained and flushed from reading other posts on here

Its a pumped system with a header tank and the water in the rads is pretty grimy ,the stuff i put it was something I got from B&q but was reputed to be a good make ,I put it into the system at a time when i had drained the the f + e to fit a new ball cock and the stuff that was over flowing still stains my conservatory roof 14 months after
I have decide i am going to bite the bullet and get a plumber in to sort it ,just found out my new trainees dad is corgi regd so will get him to have a look,thanks for taking the time
