I am trying to identify an old bolt cutter I obtained from an auction. It is embossed with the following...MANCO MFG Co Bradley, Illinois...Size No. 159-14inch 1405...1403-4P..capacity 1-4 bolts 1406. I've not been able to identify it via the internet. I am trying to establish it's age and some history.

A long shot, but you could ask [email protected] (a USA antique tools site) if they can shed any light on this. I notice that they charge $25.00 for valuations; I don't know if they charge for identification!

In the UK, the Tool and Trades History Society is always helpful in identifying tools both in the UK and internationally.

Many tool collectors major on woodworking tools and don't take much interest in bolt cutters and the like.

bob - try searching The American Patents Office website.

bob - maybe contact:

www.peddinghaus.com

they bought Manco in 1977 and could still hold that Company's archives and patent approvals.

Let us know how you get on.
