I'm considering fitting some western red cedar roof shingles to an outbuilding and wondered, are they applied to battens like normal slates, also what kind of felt or membrane should be used? I was going to ply the roof first if this matters?
Thanks Terry, I've had a read & watched the videos.
I'm a little unsure still, it says open method is always best. does that mean I lay my ply over the roof, then lay a breathable felt over the ply followed by battens and attach the shingles to the battens?
They use the cedar breather between the battens and ply but it's not something that's coming up for the UK.
I presume once you have installed the first row with the large side upwards, this acts as your eves course and you go on to laying them like a slate roof?
