cedar shingles over ply

hi there
ive build a shed in the garden out of 3x2 and 18 mm ply
i want to put cedar shingles on the roof, currently the roof is a sheet of 18mm ply with roofing felt on top, can i just nail the shingles into the ply with a good over lap or do i have to batten the roof? the roof had a 30 degree pitch

You really need to batten (and counter-batten) so that the shingles are not in constant contact with the felt.

But as this is just a shed, you can probably just do as you proposed

my problem is i always get carried away (in a good way) and like doing jobs the correct way, but on the other hand i keep telling my self its ony a garden shed!
