I’m moving house soon and looking into self storage options around Croydon. Has anyone here used storage while between properties?

Mainly need somewhere secure for furniture and boxes for a few weeks while the move gets sorted. I’ve been comparing a few places and recently looked at Snappy Self Storage Croydon because the location and access hours seemed convenient.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:
  • How much storage space do you realistically need for a 2-bed flat?
  • Are there any hidden costs with self storage?
  • Is climate control actually worth paying extra for?
  • Any tips for protecting furniture during short-term storage?
Would appreciate hearing real experiences before booking anything.

I can only tell you my experience some years ago when I emptied the house and took the roof off for loft conversion.
Our local self storage was a wooden create about the size of a transit van carrying area.
Maybe 8 foot by 5 foot ISH and around 7 foot high. That's a guess.

You buy boxes all the same size and pack up ready to take to storage.
You cover the self storage box floor with the boxes then the next layer up and so on.
You get a small unfilled space at the top where you can slide long items like an ironing board or fishing rod.
Anything that won't fit a cardboard box.

We had two units like that plus a 3rd which had our sofa and TV in.
Just about everything we owned was in 3 boxes.
I did have a shed in the garden that I had my tools in I needed which was robbed but that's another story.

Hope that helped.

oh. No climate control. Only fire alarm and insured. Just a big warehouse really.
Bottom boxes cost £10pm more and had a door on. Our boxes were lifted up on top and to gain access cost £10 with 24h notice.
Was a few years ago mind..
Worked for us. No problem. No damage to our stuff.
