Hi,

I have got an Ariston EuroCombi A/23 MFFI boiler which has been working for quite sometime, but it refuses to work lately. When I turn my hot water tap on, there is no hot water, and the insufficient water red LED is turned on. I checked on the pressure gauge, it is around 1.5 bar.

The only way I can get hot water is by turning the central heating on, i.e. put the knob to WINTER mode. Sometimes I have reset the boiler, by pressing the ON/OFF button twice, in order to get hot water in WINTER mode.

What I also notice is that, if the boiler is warm, that is if I just turn the heating off, I can get hot water even if the knob is in SUMMER mode.

Any idea on what may cause this problem?

Many thanks,
Jay

PS. If the repair is beyond me, I'll call an engineer, but I'm hoping that it may be a simple fix that a home-owner can do. From experience, calling an engineer has costed me fortune.

Best answer, get a new reliable boiler. Bosch give a 7yr warranty at the moment. Ariston would need an army if they offered that.

If it works OK in CH mode but the water sometimes doesn't heat up when a HW tap is opened, it will be a callout. Unless you have a faulty tap - but I assume it just comes out cold rather than nothing at all.

Sounds like the boiler is clogged up.
I would suggest flushing the central heating and flushing the boiler out.
The divert valve would also appear to be faulty or in need of cleaning
out. The pressure sensor in the boiler would also appear to
be clogged up.

Going to be a long job getting it up and running properly.

It does not seem totally logical what you have described but until the fault(s) are identified the reason for that will not be known.

Jay, you say that your past experience of calling an engineer has cost you a fortune! Can you quantify what charge you consider is a fortune?
