Ariston Microgenus HE 24 - cold water for 30 secs

Hi,

I have the above boiler.
Recently when having a shower the water will randomly go freezing cold for about 30 secs and then back to hot. It will do this a few times when showering. It has been doing this much more frequently as of late.

I also checked to see if the water will go cold in my kitchen, and after a few mins the same thing will happen.

I bought my flat just over a year ago, and it was last serviced just before I bought it. (Last serviced in Jul 10).

What could be the reason for this happening?

Thanks, would that mean I need to service it, or are their qualified engineers that will come out and look at the boiler and then say what damage is?

(Sorry I have never had to deal with a boiler before)

The most likely cause for your problem is dirt (sludge) in the plate to plate heat exchanger. No amount of servicing will cure the problem, you need to find a good local registered gas engineer to take a look and give you a quote for the repair. One note of caution is if their is lots of dirt (sludge) in your system it may need cleaning to stop this happening again in about two years less if it is really bad.
