Artex or plaster with textured finish ???

Hi everyone, recently had a leak as you can see in the picture and I came across the whole artex/asbestos situation while trying to figure how to DIY a fix.

Waiting on a kit at the moment but meanwhile, what do you think?

Artex stipple pattern over plasterboard done from new.
When was house built?
Last asbestos I seen in artex was in 1986.
Was around after that but I doubt any artex has asbestos after 1990.

Thanks for taking the time mate, I believe the house was built early 80s. I see on the title a transfer of the land plot to the developer in July 79
