I have recently purchased a new house, I have a ceiling that is wallpapered with artex over the top. Is there anyway that I can plaster over the top of this? The wallpapper is sound and not pealing. Is there a product that can be used to create a hermetic seal over this? I do not want to remove this as I am unsure if it may have any asbestos in, I am also considering if it would be worth overboarding the ceiling with a new lower ceiling? If so would it be possible to attach the new paster board to the old ceiling or would it be a case of recreating a new lowered ceiling with joists attached to the walls?
