Just bought a cold old house and I'm trying to figure out how to insulate the attic space. There are two large rooms in the attic (original, not a conversion) and the sloping ceilings are made of good old plaster on laths outside of which are rafters, air and tiles.
The plaster seems in generally good condition so I don't want to tear it out and I don't suppose there's much space behind it to stuff insulation between the rafters.
So I hope it is possible to fix PIR insulation boards (Celotex, Extratherm or similar) onto the plaster and then plasterboard on top of that - held up by ridiculously long screws hoping to locate in the rafters...
I can't think of a better way to attempt this. This house is by no means unique but I can't find any information about insulating such a space.
Anyone any experience?
