The PM of Australia with the support of Rebecca Stevens are going to enforce a new law requiring all eateries not to have sharp objects where patrons may have access thus any place of business that has sharp objects are going to be fined over $500 first offense.

This is to help stem the crime rate as the people of Oz cannot be trusted not to kill each other

If Sting rays were outlawed Steve would be alive today IF this law was strictly enforced

Funny you should mention that... The reason we have the ritual of having a special knife brought to the table just to eat a steak is quite simple: knife crime.

At some point in the past (17th century if memory serves correct), the powers that be decided to do something to quell a sharp rise in knife crime in taverns/inns etc. Binge drinking was also a big problem at the time, and there numerous drunken brawls ending with at least one of the antagonists grabbing the nearest weapon to hand... a common table knife.

So, they banned sharp knives in establishments that served alcohol. As it's hard to eat anything but fillet steak with what is basically a butter knife, this was later relaxed, leaving us with the ritual of the steak knife firmly engrained in British culture.

Binge drinking, knife crime, the downfall of society (as many saw it at the time)... Nothing's new

in a lot of oriental countries it is considered bad manners to have a knife at the table.

so, food is always prepared in such a way so that it can be eaten simply with chopsticks and a little bit of oral manipulation.

the chef is the only one with a sharp knife. ;)
