While you may not 'need' to float it, for the few minutes it takes to pull a float on it why not treat yourself to a nicer, flatter background for skimming?
Usually the main reason people struggle with floating hardwall is that they don't catch it at the right time either a bit too soft so it tears, or a bit too hard so it's too late.
