A friend has a problem with a severe banging noise coming from his heating. he has a back boiler and an oil fired boiler. every time he lights his open fire an awful noise erupts. He says the noise only started after the oil was installed and that he told the plumbers to leave it that he could light the open fire without any noise. hes asked them to come back and rectify it but hes just got empty promises, and false times. could it be air or expansion causing it. any advice much appreciated.

SOunds like he has still got the back boiler unit in place full of water. this sould have been removed.....but I am no expert on solid fuel.
