Banging diverter valve

Hi, I'm trying to solve my parents problem with a banging diverter valve.

Their old system you could have water only on but you couldn't have heating only on it would also heat the water. Long story short... New boiler from BG and 3 way diverter got installed.

Now it appears that if say heating was on then goes off, and then water goes on, there is an almighty bang as the valve moves over. This rattles the pipes.

I went up into their loft and took a look and the pictures I have attached here. I noticed their pump was on speed 3 so I turned it done to speed 2 and that hasn't helped. When I was up there in the loft I watched the diverter Valve move across and then bang and shake as it moved to water.

The pump and the diverter are really close it seems. Is this the issue? BG changed the valve to a honeywell then back to the Drayton as it made little difference. Can you tell from the pictures that the pump and the Valve are the same way? Or that there's another issue? This will help me to help them explain to engineers what's wrong, not that I should know!

1. I doubt the closeness of pump and valve have anything to do with it, and also doubt its anything to do with pump speed.
2. I would suspect the long lengths of unsupported pipe. In particular (photo 1) the pipe between pump and motorised valve appears to be resting on the white insulated pipe.
3. Try holding those pipe apart (or firmly together), get someone to change from heating to hot water, and see if the bang and / or rattle alters.
4. In my opinion, not the most professional pipe work.

Pipeworks a mess I would go with unclipped pipework as well for a start .
A few rubber lined clips strategically placed should do job.

Is it a diverter or mid position valve? Also (not related to the noise) there should be a 40mm clearance above the head.

Be cylinder flow not unusual on older systems.

If problem persists, replace that valve with a shutter type rather than ball or pedal. Valve examples- Danfoss, Potterton, sunvic

while this is not the exact type, principle is the key. The gate closes instead of a door slamming shut on the opening
