I need to make a base for a 12 foot shed
Ive dug out and shuttered a base in solid ground 5 inches deep
I have a load of old cracked paving slabs can I put them in the base to reduce the amount of concrete required before concreting over the top with a mixture of sand and cement with fibre admix ???

What are you constructing the shed out of, timber, block/brick etc..?
If I was using old paving, bricks blocks etc..as part of my subbase, I would smash them up in to the smallest pieces I could these can then be laid, fill voids with grit sand and wackered down. This will prevent problems at a later date.
If you have a 125mm deep, boxed out section. I would suggest 50mm worth of infill/hardcore leaving no less than 75mm for you concrete pour.
It could be worth consideration that you lay a DPM to help prevent damp issues.
