Daft daughter has a sony laptop, somehow she has managed to destroy the charger.
On the bottom it says 19.5v 2.3A. A replacement charger both oem and original part state they have 4.3A output. Does this mean they are 'overpowered' and the laptop/battery will only take the advertised 2.3A. If this is the case would it be safe to plug another sony charger into the beast which has a 6.something output.

Nope - you'll be fine. Current is drawn by the device, not pushed by the power supply (a simplification, but I'm sure you get the point).

So the new power supply is rated at up to 4.3A but the laptop will only draw up to 2.3A (and typically much less).
