batten removed - How to tile below.

There was a batten around bath and then along the side wall for tiling on.

When this is is removed what is the best way to tile below it on the side wall which goes all the way to the bottom of the floor.

The floor will be tiled eventually.

do you mean in terms of stopping them slipping down? most tilers i know use masking tape to tape them to the one above the (now missing) baton
 
MAke yourself a gauge rod draw on this the size of tiles plus 2 mm for the spacer go along the rod and adjust till you have equal sizes each end mark out the bottom tile and fit new Barton tile up and when they have set take off Barton and finish bottom row easy good tiling :) :) :)
