Just went to turn the Central Heating on the other day, and nothing. Hot water is fine, but no CH.

On the boiler control panel, the 'Mains Light' is green but nothing else is showing any colours/flashing.

Any ideas? I'm not very technical but don't want to shell out the £££'s for a repair man so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Then the boiler is getting no 'demand' from either the internal clock, external clock and/or room stat.

Check these are working first

To be honest I don't know how to check these things - I turned the thermostat dial and a red light went on on a box on the wall (not on the boiler itself).
I set all of the switches to the opposite position and flicked the switch onto timed, but still no luck as far as the CH is concerned...

Summer/winter button ? Looks like the reset button just by the D.H.W thermostat control knob

Depress for winter

If you have correctly set the user controls then you will probably need to get a boiler engineer if you are "not very technical".

Why dont you want to pay to get your boiler repaired?

Tony

Ok, have done - I'll be sure to post up what the problem was when it's been repaired.

I guess I wanted to try to fix it myself as opposed to paying someone to do it. Oh well, worth a try :)

That's most people would do in this climate, you've asked a question at the wrong time, wrong people on at the mo?

Ok, firstly thanks to all those who posted a response - greatly appreciated. I called in British Gas as suggested by a fellow post member and after a couple of hours they thought that it was a faulty diverter. After they found and replaced my diverter with a new one, it still didn't work. They consulted their laptop and found the summer/winter button.

Big ups to Baxmax who suggested that this might be the problem. This was indeed the answer, however the button wasn't visible on the 'control panel' of the boiler, it wasn't until the engineers took the pcb off to realise there was a red button in the top left corner of the board - pushing down on this button turned it to 'winter' mode, which made the boiler come to life. For those who are technically (not very) minded as me, they took off the cover, undid the screws and on the black thing on the other side of the control panel (after unscrewing it) was the red button ( you do need to disconnect the heater and hot water dials before pulling it up).

I really do hope this helps someone in the future, seriously, it is a job that even I could've done!!!
