Interesting episode of BMB yesterday, mainly because I know 2 of the people who were on it. A couple of things struck me as odd though, they removed an internal wall which was described as not supporting because "there was no wall above it". I guess it's a little more complex than that, like are there any joists resting on it?! Have to assume they knew what they were doing.

Other thing was that they injected a DPC from the inside due to rising damp, but it was injected above the finished floor level. The floor appeared to be chipboard/floorboard so presumably there is a chance that the rising damp will still damage joists and the floor, in fact anything below the DPC? They did find that the damp was caused by a leaking water main apparently so I guess that meant the DPC was pointless in the end!

Not the most riveting programme I have to say!

As well as that, a wall can also be a 'shear' wall - not apparently carrying any vertical load but providing essential lateral stability.
